The Brazilian Arts Foundation Spring Camp is an annual event filled with workshops in different Brazilian Arts such as Capoeira, Brazilian Music, Brazilian Dance and entertainment.
Sponsored by the Houston Arts Alliance, BAF brings guest instructors from Brazil among other places. Most classes are for all levels and events are family friendly. 2014 brings you capoeira masters such as Mestre Jelon, Maracatú Austin, Forró and much more!
Open to the Houston Community and out-of-town visitors.
Get a great package of classes, music, live free music and have lots of fun and join these great dancers, capoeristas and instructors during this exciting event!
We will also be having our Open House Music Night with Nós Aqui is a traditional Forró trio playing music of the great legends of Northeastern Brazil as well as original compositions. Their music is designed for engaging the people with vibrant music that is sure to get your feet dancing.

About Our Guest Instructors
Mestre Jelon Vieira:
Mestre Jelon Vieira, founder of Capoeira Luanda, is a world-renowned master and teacher of Capoeira. Born in Santo Amaro da Purificação, Bahia, Brazil, in 1953, he started at the age of ten training with at Capoeira Angola with Mestre Emerito and later with Mestre Bobô. In 1969, he met Mestre Eziquiel with whom he studied Capoeira Regional. He also had the honor of attending classes at Mestre Bimba’s academy.
Maracatú Austin is a percussion group that focuses its studies on the many diverse rhythms from the Northeastern culture of Brazil. Their goal is to create cultural awareness and community through the drum.
While not a traditional Maracatu society, their main focus is to study and learn about the rich and powerful rhythms of Maracatú drumming . It is also their mission to admire,study and share many rhythms of the world where they show telling the tale of unity in a world without borders.

Bruno Vinezof is originally from Olinda-Pernambuco-Brazil. He has played with many Brazilian artists such as Quarteto Olinda, Renata Rosa, Pandeiro do Mestre, Rabecado, Alessandra Leao, Cascabulho, Maciel Salu and many tracitional “Mestres” from Pernambuco.
Michael Longoria is one of the most prominent percussionists in Austin TX. He has also has gained a reputation as talented custom drum luthier with a primary focus on Brazilian folk instruments such as Berimbau, Ilu, Tarol, Pandeiro, Alfaia, Timbal and many more.
Michael’s influence in percussion and Brazilian music in Austin is widely spread to bands such as Seu Jacinto, Morena Sou, Nós Aqui, Maracatú Austin and more.
Nós Aqui is a traditional forró trio playing music of the great legends of Northeastern Brazil as well as original compositions. Their music is designed for engaging the people with vibrant music that is sure to get your feet dancing.
