The Brazilian Arts Foundation Receives the 2012 After-School Initiative (ASI) Non-Profit Residency

Houston, TX – 5/18/2012 – The Brazilian Arts Foundation (BAF) was awarded $2,000 by the Cooperative for After-School Enrichment (CASE) for a 2012 partnership with Project Row Houses.
This grant will allow BAF to teach Capoeira classes twice a week during the Project Row Houses Summer Arts Education Program. The Brazilian Arts Foundation, established in 2001, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing cultural education and building community through the preservation and sharing of Brazilian culture. In 2006, the organization established a cultural center in order to further develop and expand its program and performance offerings. Located in the historic Houston Heights, the center provides a home in which the Foundation offers the majority of its classes and workshops, as well as hosts events and educational programs.
Cooperative for After-School Enrichment – The Harris County Department of Education formed CASE in 1999, to mobilize the community to work together to ensure that every child in Harris County has access to an after-school program. CASE has been endorsed by all 26 Houston/Harris County School Superintendents and by the Joint City/County Commission on Children.CASE has supported the Brazilian Arts Foundation’s summer camps and after-school programs since 2007, allowing us to partner with different schools and community centers throughout Houston. Another program CASE organizes that BAF has participated in for the past four years is “Kid’s Day.” In this program, varying types of arts organizations partner with a school to allow the children the opportunity to express themselves artistically.
This opportunity allows the children participating with BAF to perform on a professional stage and experience the life of a professional performer. In addition, CASE helped finance the Capoeira After School Program at KIPP Sharpstown in 2010 and CASE presented to the Brazilian Arts Foundation the 2011 Outstanding CASE After-School Initiative Partner award.
